History[]

A tapestry depicting Yog-Soggoth made by the Knights of Yog-Soggoth.
Yog-Soggoth is one of the Elder Gods, a race of powerful eldritch beings from the Dark Dimension that were feared and worshipped by humanity in prehistoric times. When his grandson Junior got restless, he brought the Devil's Toybox and the Toys of Power over from his home dimension to keep him entertained. Yog-Soggoth would eventually be banished back to the Dark Dimension by the Molemen, who used the Cthonic Destroyer to drive him, Junior, and the rest of the Elder Gods from the mortal plane. Though Yog-Soggoth was banished, his worshippers remained, popping up in several points throughout history. In ancient Egypt, his followers made several failed attempts to steal the Toys of Power from Sammun-Mak. He also had multiple organizations dedicated to him like the Knights of Yog-Soggoth and the Brotherhood of Yog-Soggoth.
In The Tomb of Sammun-Mak, a disciple of Yog-Soggoth named Anton Papierwaite attempted to summon Yog-Soggoth in 1901 by having Sameth and Maximus retrieve the Devil's Toybox for him so that he could use it in a ritual to sacrifice Maximus to his master. However, his plan backfired when Maximus tricked the sorcerer into sacrificing himself instead. While Papierwaite failed to summon Yog-Soggoth as he intended, the power of Maximus' psychic brain managed to extract a tiny fraction of the Elder God's essence from the Dark Dimension and fuse it to his torso, resulting in the two being stuck together for over a century.
In They Stole Max's Brain!, Yog-Soggoth urged Papierwaite to continue working with General Skun-ka'pe so that their struggle to gather the rest of the Toys of Power could be finished, though their plans were sidelined when Sammun-Mak stole the Devil's Toybox and used it to reshape reality in his image. With Papierwaite under the Pharaoh's control, Yog-Soggoth (under the alias of "Doctor Norrington") decides to aid Max and the Molemen from the shadows, helping them overthrow the young tyrant and restoring the world to its original state.
In Beyond the Alley of the Dolls, Sam and Max discover Yog-Soggoth's true appearance (a small, cephalopod-like creature) when they barge into Papierwaite's office. He explains to them how he and Papierwaite have been trying to find and destroy the Toys and the Toybox as their power was never meant to be wielded by mortals, instructing the pair to retrieve the Cthonic Destroyer. However, things take a turn for the worse as Yog-Soggoth and Papierwaite are kidnapped and placed in a cage by Charlie Ho-Tep, who planned to sacrifice the Elder God to Junior as revenge for trying to destroy him. Charlie eventually grew tired of Yog-Soggoth's insults and blasted him with the Cthonic Destroyer, seemingly killing him and Papierwaite. However, Yog-Soggoth survives and unlocks Max's true psychic potential, allowing him to face off against Charlie and defeat him.
In The City That Dares Not Sleep, Yog-Soggoth joins the rescue mission to save Max when the latter mutates into a giant monster.
