Shuv-Oohl is a side character in Sam & Max Hit the Road.

Character Detail[]

Shuv-Oohl lives at the Mystery Vortex. He dabbles in conspiracy theory and mysticism and talks with a hippie pronounciation. His room is full of tabloid paper clips. He is also into exercise and frowns upon his "couch potato" nephew, Doug. Some years ago he helped constructing The World's Largest Ball of Twine, but he lost his Mood Ring there.

Sam & Max seek him out after a tip from Doug. After they return his mood ring to him he manages to find out what happened to Bruno. At that point he gives them some magic powder and instructions on how to find the Frog Rock and contact the space molemen, who can tell them where to look next.

Background[]

While mentioning the mysteries of the world, he mentions "two-headed squirrels". A two-headed squirrel was a tabloid subject in the LucasArts game Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders.

Shuv-Oohl speaks the line "It's, like, several voices screaming out in terror and then suddenly silenced". It is a reference to Star Wars as such a line was spoken by Obi-Wan Kenobi when he sensed the destruction of Alderaan.

Shuv-Oohl speaks the line "Something wonderful" and flashes colors after being asked by Sam what will happen then (after the three samples of sasquatch hair and the mystic moleman powder are put on Frog Rock). It is a reference to the line said by David Bowman in 2010: The Year We Make Contact when speaking to his estranged wife through her television.

When Sam speaks the line "1,2,3...", Shuv-Oohl replies with the line "What are we fightin' for?" This is a reference to the song I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag by Country Joe and the Fish.
