Comics[]
Sam & Max appeared in the comics before appearing anywhere else. Almost all of these have been reprinted in The collected Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway.
1. Early comics (1987-1992)[]
The comics that started it all. Made in the late eighties and early nineties in black-and-white, though some were later reprinted in color. The early comics are generally more grimy and violent than later incarnations, as well as less stylized.

2. The Adventurer comics (1990-1996)[]

A series of full-color single-page comics made for LucasArts' promotional magazine The Adventurer, loosely related to its then-recent games. Appeared from 1990 through 1996.
All the "Adventurer comics" doesn't have titles (Besides the first one from 1990), but I will try to show you the right placement of these comics:

Animations[]
1. The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police (1997-1998)[]

An animated television series that ran from October 1997 to April 1998 for a total of 24 episodes.
Every episode is 10 minutes and 40 seconds length, only first and the last episode are 21 minutes long.
2. Our Bewildering Universe[]

A flash short featuring alien surgery.
3. Season One machinima shorts[]

A series of short machinima videos using the engine from Sam & Max Season One. During the season's initial run three were released between each episode and the next, keeping fans busy on a weekly basis.
4. Sam & Max Nearly Save Christmas[]

A 20-minute machinima video produced by Telltale Games to promote Ice Station Santa and their Sam & Max series in general, with largely the same plot as Ice Station Santa.

1. Sam & Max Hit the Road (1993)[]

A graphic adventure game published by LucasArts in 1993.
2. Sam & Max Plunge Through Space (CANCELED) (2001-2002)[]
- Main article: Sam & Max Plunge Through Space
A canceled action-adventure for the Xbox worked on by Infinite Machine in 2001-2002. Only after Infinite Machine went bankrupt did LucasArts reacquire the Sam & Max rights and announce Freelance Police (below).
3. Sam & Max: Freelance Police (CANCELED)[]

A planned sequel to Hit the Road that was canceled in March 2004. The cancellation caused a big outcry among the public and eventually led to the creation of Telltale Games.
4. Sam & Max episodic series (2006-2010)[]

After the cancellation of Freelance Police, the Sam & Max video game rights eventually reverted to Steve Purcell. Soon after, Sam & Max Season One was announced by Telltale Games, a company founded by former LucasArts employees. The original series lasted three seasons including Save the World, Beyond Time and Space, and The Devil's Playhouse from 2006-2010. Starting December 2020, former Telltale employees formed the company Skunkape Games which has started remastering the Telltale Games for Steam, the latest xBox systems, and the Nintendo Switch.
5. Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual (2021)[]

The first new Sam & Max game since Poker Night 2. A VR game developed by HappyGiant Games where Sam and Max train a recruit to join the Freelance Police with a series of obstacles.
