The following is a comprehensive list of all official stories in the Sam & Max franchise.
Comics
Sam & Max appeared in the comics before appearing anywhere else. Almost all of these have been reprinted in The collected Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway.
Early comics
The comics that started it all. Made in the late eighties and early nineties in black-and-white, though some were later reprinted in color. The early comics are generally more grimy and violent than later incarnations, as well as less stylized.

Season One machinima shorts

A series of short machinima videos using the engine from Sam & Max Season 1. During the season's initial run three were released between each episode and the next, keeping fans busy on a weekly basis.
Sam & Max Nearly Save Christmas

A 20-minute machinima video produced by Telltale Games to promote Ice Station Santa and their Sam & Max series in general, with largely the same plot as Ice Station Santa.

Sam & Max Hit the Road

A graphic adventure game published by LucasArts in 1993.
Sam & Max Plunge Through Space

A canceled action-adventure for the Xbox worked on by Infinite Machine in 2001-2002. Only after Infinite Machine went bankrupt did LucasArts reacquire the Sam & Max rights and announce Freelance Police (below).
Sam & Max: Freelance Police

A planned sequel to Hit the Road that was canceled in March 2004. The cancellation caused a big outcry among the public and eventually led to the creation of Telltale Games.
