John the Alligator is Sam and Max's pet alligator in The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police. He appears in That Darn Gator.
Description[]
Sam & Max first encountered John as a newborn in the Sub-Basement of Solitude when their vacuum sucked him up from The Geek's toilet. They decided to adopt him and named him 'John' (Because that's where they found him). They had trouble getting John to eat anything, even to the point of going out and making a bug paste for him to eat, only to find out that he'd only eat stuff off Max's finger and arm. Eventually, they raised him into a fully grown gator, which chomped almost everything edible, but he became more distant and depressed (usually found sleeping with his ear to the toilet and being protective of a pair of alligator brogues). Eventually, it was decided that they needed to send John back where he came from. First, they tried flushing him down the toilet, but The Geek told them to take him to Florida instead. When they last saw John, he was happy and integrated with the other gators, but completely forgot which gator he was.

John imprinted on Max, and as Sam said, "he thinks you're his mommy." Throughout the young stages of his life, John ate food right from Max's Arms, Hands, and Fingers.

John was taken care of by Sam as well as Max.
