Aquabears, also known as tardigrades, are one of the different species which live in the Sam & Max universe. Duncan B. Dills made them the star attractions of this theme park.
As of the end of This Time It's Virtual, the status of all seen aquabears, including Cap'n Aquabear, is unknown.
Description[]
Aquabears are one of the most resilient creatures of the known universe. They are impervious to extreme temperatures, radiation, and a variety of other conditions that would kill most other lifeforms. They have even been known to survive in the vacuum of space, though they enter hibernation if exposed to it.
Aquabears have barrel-shaped bodies with four pairs of stubby limbs. Their colors can vary, usually being somewhere in the range of salmon pink to cool grey.
In real life, Aquabears generally only go into hibernation when exposed to extreme circumstances, such as a lack of oxygen or water. In Sam & Max, however, they can also be forced into hibernation by a combination of minuscule amounts of liquified Scrumpos and Dr. Dill's Soda in the air, and the sonic waves from the "Meet the Aquabears" song.
Notable Aquabears[]
Aquabear Bouncer[]
The Aquabear Bouncer is a minor character who appears in Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual.
When Sam was captured by Cap'n Aquabear and taken to the Nanoverse, Max and "Lumpy" dressed themselves up in an Aquabear costume. Before the bouncer would let anyone into the club, however, the Aquabears had to mimic his hand gestures.
Bo'Sun Kevin[]
Bo'Sun Kevin is a minor character who appears in Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual. He is one of Cap'n Aquabear's crew members.
When Max and "Lumpy" meet up with him, Kevin is putting the finishing touches on the portal that would permanently enlarge the Aquabears. He doesn't like to be bothered by anyone who tries to interfere with his work.
DJ Aquabear[]
The DJ Aquabear is a minor character who appears in Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual.
The DJ Aquabear is in charge of mixing the songs for the club. Max tries to convince the DJ to play Meet the Aquabears, but the DJ says that everyone has heard the song repeatedly for the past twenty years. The DJ finally gives in and plays the record. After the Max and "Lumpy" tamper with the ingredients of the foam canisters, the DJ goes into his hibernation state along with the rest of the Aquabears.
